Hello Blogosphere,
My name is Brendan. I’d like to personally welcome you to the wonderful world that is the inside of my mind. As a student of public relations at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater I have grown to be ever increasingly fascinated with the field. Not only are the things I learn in my lectures of interest to me but I often find myself branching off in thought about things that haven’t really been touched on in class. Often it is along the lines of measuring the return on investment of PR efforts, of course that maybe my economics mindset showing through, I also study economics at the UW-Whitewater.
Besides the tremendous task of being a student I currently hold five different positions of employment, if you count two internships. Three of which allow me to utilize and grow the skills I have been developing as a student, which is exiting. When it comes to working I try not to get tunnel vision. While I know how important it is to have goals, flexibility in the goals we set is important as well. Spending a ton of time and effort working towards achieving one specific objective can be very worthwhile, but if it has distracted you from even greater opportunity then the original achievement comes at a much greater cost than just time and effort.
So for now I am focused on making myself available for opportunity. By putting myself out there I hope to realize potential I don’t currently know exists. I know that I possess the entrepreneurial spirit. (One of those five jobs I currently have… I saw an opportunity and pitched the idea to my boss and she ate it up, which ended up allowing me to create a new position within the organization.) So, as far as long term goals are concerned entrepreneurship is one, and to get there I plan to follow whatever opportunities present themselves.
Wow congratulations on your 5 different positions of employment right now. That is very hard to do while going to school. You have the right mindset and that is what it takes. You have a bright future ahead.
ReplyDeleteI understand how it is to be super busy, but 5 jobs is something I could never handle! You seem to have a really strong work ethic and great drive in life! Keep up the good work because its an attitude like that, which will keep our society moving towards the future!
ReplyDelete5 different jobs! WOW! I don't know how you do it. I would never be able to handle that while going to school. You must be great at handeling a lot of different opportunities. In the future I'm sure you will be a great entrepreneur. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about setting goals and having flexibility within those goals. You definitely have goals and know how to work through them. Good luck with all your jobs!
